Passivhaus Domestic Building

This highly contemporary home on the gently sloping Waveney Valley skyline was conceived by Cambridge Architects to provide striking accommodation for the clients. The dwelling achieves high sustainability scores through its careful use of materials, high levels of insulation and efficient heating systems.

We were commissioned to undertake the design of foundations and superstructure elements.

Concrete construction was part specified to create the partially buried and piled lower storey (necessary to overcome a geological boundary running directly under the building footprint). The concrete with timber-board marked finish creates a highly contemporary plinth for the timber-framed Passivhaus design above. The structural engineering required careful consideration of the complex ground conditions and the interface of the concrete sub-structure with the timberPassivhaus,
