Carlton Marsh Visitor Centre

With a generous Lottery Heritage Fund, Suffolk Wildlife Trust has commenced the transformation of Carlton Marshes which is the southern gateway into the Broads National Park. As part of this new venture, the new educational visitor centre was designed to nestle into the natural landscape.

The structure provided many design challenges; from its sweeping curving roof, full-height glazing and cantilevering external deck. Environmental considerations were at the core of the project, with the majority of the superstructure comprising engineered timber elements, with steelwork limited to steel plates at connections.

Our consultancy services included environmental, drainage, substructure, superstructure design and principal designer.
