Former Commercial Premises in Ipswich

A proposed retirement development within a confined town centre location, required the demolition of an existing commercial building. During the demolition and excavation of relict foundations the contractor encountered evidence of buried asbestos. Our environmental team were commissioned by the contractor to provide advice throughout the remediation/material segregation works.

Our main considerations were to minimise the quantity of hazardous waste and to maximise the volume of recyclable asbestos free aggregate. This was undertaken whilst maintaining vigilance on dust suppression compliance, to manage the short-term risk to the surrounding residential properties.

Our commission included the provision of detailed advice to the demolition contractor, a review of method statements and assistance with the materials management plan. As a result of regular inspections and sampling of the processed materials, we enabled a significant proportion of the screened material to be retained on site, which was then suitable for re-use.
