ST STEPHEN'S CHURCH
Norwich, Norfolk

Following the burst of an Anglian Water pipe adjacent to the 15th century church's East gable, significant structural movements were observed in these areas. JP Chick & Partners Ltd were appointed by the church's PCC initially to give advice on the movements and stability of the church, and subsequently to advise on a repair system.

Due to the degree of movement, gable stays were installed from the churchyard up to the East gable to limit the damage and ensure stability prior to the main work being undertaken.

Commission:-

  • Monitoring of church and logging all movement observed
  • The organisation of ground penetration radar to ascertain the area/volume of disturbed soil beneath the church
  • Appointing ground investigation company to ascertain the type of foundation in use as well as the underlying soil condition
  • Design of temporary works to support the scheme
  • Design of the permanent support structure
